Free Residential Energy Audit - Measures That
Could Be Costing You Money.
Austin Energy and Texas Gas offer rebates and loan options to help you weatherize your home to increase
its efficiency and lower your utility bills. The following measures are eligible:
Attic Insulation
- Attic insulation is one of the easiest ways to improve your homes comfort. Inadequate insulation costs Austin
homeowners hundreds of dollars each year in wasted energy consumption. Most homes over ten years old have an
average insulation depth of R-12. Austin Energy recommends a depth of R-38. We use CertainTeed Insul-Safe blown fiberglass
insulation. It offers even coverage, won't settle, rot or decay, and is certified as a "Green" building product.
Ductwork Sealing / Replacement - Duct leakage of 25-30% occurs in most homes. We locate
and properly seal all supply and return air ducts, plenums, and grills. In rare cases, some ductwork cannot
be sealed due to deterioration. We use ACCO R-8 foil-backed flex duct to replace ductwork that cannot be sealed.
Caulking
and Weather-Stripping - Caulking of all plumbing penetrations and areas where outdoor air can infiltrate is
part of sealing the envelope of your home. We also check and replace as needed the weather-stripping on all exterior
doors.
Solar Screens - Windows facing east, west, and south receiving more than an hour
of direct sunlight should have solar screens installed. Solar screens can reduce home heat loss in the winter and heat gain
in the summer.
Air Conditioning and Heating - Older air conditioning and heating systems can account
for 60-70% of your summer electric bill than a newer energy efficient model. We are proud to partner with John and
Charles Osgood of Service Wizard to offer quality Trane high efficiency systems.
